Meet the team

Every week our talented team of writers and editors make The Week Junior. Meet our team, find out what they do, and learn more about how we make each issue.

Anna Bassi, Editor

Anna Bassi, Editor

Anna’s spent more than 20 years making magazines for young people. She relishes working out what will interest, amuse and entertain her readers – and she’s very grateful to her own children for helping her work out exactly what does. When she’s not editing The Week Junior, Anna likes drinking coffee, spending time with her family and friends and feeling sand between her toes.

Felicity Capon, Deputy Editor

Felicity Capon, Deputy Editor

Before arriving at The Week Junior, Felicity spent time as a writer, reporter and columnist for Newsweek, The Day, The Telegraph and various other UK newspapers and magazines. She holds degrees in history, law and journalism, and spent a year studying in Santiago, Chile. When her head isn’t buried in a newspaper, Felicity likes playing frisbee, drinking copious amounts of tea, long walks and discovering new music.

Ben Isaacs, Features Editor

Ben Isaacs, Features Editor

Ben Isaacs has worked on some of the most popular – and unpopular – weekly publications in the UK in his career. He’s glad to finally be working on a magazine that his daughter and her friends love. He also enjoys running and playing videogames. But not at the same time.

Chloe Ward, Staff Writer

Chloe Ward, Staff Writer

Chloe has worked on children’s magazines for the last five years and has enjoyed every minute - she’s practically a big kid. Each week she looks forward to writing about different global events for “Around the world” as well as a host of weird and wonderful creatures for the “Animals and the environment” section of The Week Junior. Chloe likes unicorns, watching Disney films and wearing jazzy backpacks.

Augustin Macellari, Staff Writer

Augustin Macellari, Staff Writer

Augustin studied art but quickly realised that while a picture may say 1,000 words, words say it better. He writes home news and people for The Week Junior, but the highlight of his week is trawling through the depths of the internet trying to find stories which are, genuinely, 'unbelievable.' He has no hobbies.

Stevie Derrick, Staff Writer

Stevie Derrick, Staff Writer

Starting her first job in writing in 2012, Stevie has now been a journalist for five years. She’s previously worked on pre-school titles and a girls’ celebrity magazine. Stevie writes the “Science and technology” and “All about” sections in the magazine. When she isn’t trying to get her head around difficult science topics, Stevie loves watching science fiction films.

Dave Kelsall, Art Editor

Dave Kelsall, Art Editor

Dave has worked on Magazines for over 25 years. Yikes! He is the Art Editor which means he takes the words and pictures and makes them look as fun and informative as possible. His favourite part of the Magazine is putting together the cover and thinking up new ways to make them look cool every week!

Vanessa Harriss, Production Editor

Vanessa Harriss, Production Editor

Vanessa Harriss has worked in magazines for 20 years. When she’s not looking up strange facts for The Week Junior, she really loves swimming. Doesn’t matter where: pools, the sea, lakes, rivers – just as long as it’s wet and splashy. She also likes dogs, porridge for breakfast and woolly jumpers. She sits between Anna and Hugh.

Colin Williams, Picture Editor

Colin Williams, Picture Editor

Colin likes looking at pictures. It’s just as well because he sources most of the photos that go into the magazine each week - apart from the ones you send in to us! He works with the writers and designers to make sure each photograph reflects the story it accompanies. Colin’s often found riding his bike and couldn’t start the day without porridge and peanut butter.

Kaye O'Doherty, Editorial Assistant

Kaye O’Doherty, Editorial Assistant

Kaye joined The Week Junior team in April. She studied anthropology and went to Nicaragua for 10 weeks to volunteer on a volcano national park. She enjoys learning Spanish, reading letters from The Week Junior readers and taking her dog on long walks with her family.

Hugh Porter, Sub-Editor

Hugh Porter, Sub-Editor

Hugh has worked in newspapers and magazines for more than 20 years. As sub-editor, he checks the grammar and researches facts for The Week Junior. His job has got a lot easier since the internet was invented, though he still likes to read big reference books, just for fun. When Crystal Palace FC are not playing, he spends weekends camping and burning food on the fire for his children.

Here's how we make The Week Junior every week;
