This lesson uses an article that appeared in a recent edition of The Week Junior as a stimulus for exploration of a highly topical issue – migration. It targets many aspects of the KS2 programme of study for geography, including place and locational knowledge, human and physical geography and geographical skills. It also has strong links with English, maths (using real life data), global learning and SMSC.

What pupils will learn:

Know where some of the world’s countries frequently mentioned in the media are located
Identify and understand geographical similarities and differences
Appreciate that people move between places (migration) and the reasons for this
Use maps, atlases, globes and digital mapping to locate countries and describe features
