Our Summer of Reading challenge invites your child to fire up their imagination, become the hero of a thousand stories and unlock the most important superpower of all – the power of reading.
The challenge
This summer, we're challenging children to read at least one book, rate each book they read out of three stars and write a three word review.
The prize
The overall winner will receive a book bundle worth over £400, a Bookily gift card worth £120 and a family ticket to The Week Junior Book Festival in October half term. Two runners-up will each receive a Bookily gift card worth £60. Not only that, parents get prizes too, explore our page to find out more.
Everything you'll need:
This year, WHSmith is giving all readers a 20% off voucher to purchase their first book and kickstart their challenge. Visit our Terms & Conditions to learn more.
Need some inspiration before purchasing your next book? Our challenge reading list features 50 brilliant books recommended by readers of The Week Junior. We've sorted them into 10 categories with five books in each.
Children can enter our prize draw by rating and reviewing each book they read this summer.
Fun activities to keep kids busy:
To encourage children to read as much as possible this summer, we've created a reading chart which they can use to track all their progress throughout the challenge.
Looking for fun ideas to keep curious minds entertained? We've put together lots of reading themed activities to help – from creating a play based on their favourite book to preparing marmalade sandwiches fit for Paddington Bear.
This year WHSmith are handing out a limited number of bookmarks to reader who purchased their books in store. If you purchased your books online, why not download our design and try making a bookmark at home.
For the parents and carers of our readers, we've also got a separate competition that will give one winner a £150 National Book Tokens gift card. Fill in our form to be in with a chance of winning.
