The Week Junior marks the International Day of Hope
To mark the United Nations’ International Day of Hope, The Week Junior have curated a dedicated 'Hope Issue', in which young readers share their hopes for the future.
The Week Junior highlights hope
The United Nations’ International Day of Hope, on 12 July, focuses attention on hope as a powerful force that can change lives, communities and the whole planet. To mark the day, The Week Junior created a dedicated Hope Issue.
Listening to young people
The magazine ran a survey of its young readers to find out how they feel about the future and their part in it. Questions covered how hopeful they feel about the future, what actions they would take if they were Prime Minister and what one thing would make the world better. Readers were also asked who inspires them, whether they already do things to help their community and how they feel about AI.
A strong, can-do attitude
The results, published in the Hope Issue, revealed a strong sense of agency among young people: 97% of readers felt they can make a difference to the world, and 59% are already part of organisations that in some way help their community. Of those who aren’t in that sort of group, 58% are eager to join one.
You can read a summary of the survey findings here. Or find them in this week's issue of The Week Junior.
Priorities for a brighter future
Alongside the survey results, the magazine featured six young people who have translated hope into action, using their talents to help others. This sense of purpose reflects The Week Junior’s broader mission: to empower children by broadening their perspectives and highlighting the individuals driving positive change globally. By providing a diverse understanding of the world, the publication encourages its readers to translate their values into meaningful action.
